Dream Closet
I went to the Paloma Elsesser closet sale and all I got was this t-shirt.
Mariah Carey. Cher Horowitz. Carrie Bradshaw. Mia Thermopolis. Jenna from 13 going on 30. We all have an image in our heads of the “Dream Closet.” And many of us could name a celebrity or two whose closet we’d love to raid, Bling Ring style. When I learned that model Paloma Elsesser and stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson were hosting a size-inclusive closet sale, I knew I had to be there.
By the time I got to the address in Soho, 9:00 am on a Sunday, the line was wrapping around the block. I’m used to scoffing at the rubes who line up for viral cookies or hypebeast sweatshirt drops in Soho, so this was a very vulnerable experience for me. But I’m glad for the line because it gave me plenty of time to photograph what everyone around me was wearing.
(L) Kristen and Megan paired sporty outfits with elevated accessories
(M) Jasir wore the dreamiest summer Oxford with her Tabi flats
(R) Aleah and Bunmi wore super chic little black day dresses and Raissa had a phenomenal patchwork leather bag
Paloma greeted everyone in line and, as the morning sun began to heat up, made a last minute popsicle run to keep everyone cool.
(L) Decker and Imani rocked pops of color
(M) Morgan and Joanna wore strappy numbers and sunglasses
(R) Jazzmyn and Naomi had the perfect summer dresses on
Finally inside! The atmosphere was “Refined Party” with 90’s house music and what were certainly expensive smelling candles burning away. In a sea of designer, I began to feel more at home when I found a novelty bikini shirt on a rack.
There were accessories galore: drawers full of funky sunglasses, tables full of handbags, and a mound of colorful hats on a low table in the middle of the floor. But the focus was definitely on the racks and racks of inclusively sized apparel.
(L) Happy Mahn and Jeffrey customers are leaving satisfied
(M) Shoppers Talia and Grace pause for a pic by the purse tables
(R) Eileen and Max perfectly styled black basics so effortlessly cool
